Pop!

What makes a color pop? I have been thinking about this as full fall colors have been on display this week. The normal view across the valley looks like a carpet of green…until the aspens turn gold and red. Then, the green is interspersed with bright, vibrant pockets of “pop” colors. There are spots I swore were all pine trees until I see the aspen golds and reds! The same is true in quilting and knitting/crocheting. A pop color can add interest to a subdued set of fabrics or yarns. The opposite is also true – if you have a bunch of bright colors, a dark pop color can help accent and distinguish the different brights. Think pop this week as you look at the fall colors around you and as you look at quilts.

Crocheters, we have a very cool new book called Crocheting the National Parks. The author includes patterns reflective of 20 of our country’s National Parks. Projects vary from mittens to bags to leg warmers to throws and more. Crochet a project for each National Park you go to! We have a few books in stock now and more are inbound (check out Pre-order).

Riley Blake has released a new Rocky Mountain National Park “poster” panel (36” x 43”). The colors span a broad palette which will make it easy to work in any colorway. It is  a very different look from the original panel!

Also back in stock is Scott Flanagan’s Mix and Match Sampler Settings book AND kits in bright and varied colors to go with it. In this book, Flanagan teaches common block building skills to create 12 individual blocks – he then shows how these 12 blocks can create VERY different looking quilts depending on how you arrange the blocks and/or the colors you choose for your fabrics. We set our fabric kit according to the Retreat Day Sampler layout.

You asked and we listened! We have two classes scheduled to teach quick and easy pillowcases called Pillowcase Fun. One is happening this coming Saturday, October 11, from 1-4 (last day to register is Wednesday) and the other is Saturday, November 15, from 9-noon. Choose your own fabrics and learn how to make a quick and easy gift. If you can't make the class, we have patterns and kits available.

Another fun class we have scheduled is Gear Up for the Holidays. In this class you will make four pillowcases and four napkins out of fabrics of your choice (the all day class price includes fabric – but you get to choose). These, too, are quick and easy projects that will be something new for your table or gifts for the holidays.

It might snow tonight….we are due! Keep an eye out for pop colors!
