Summer Mornings

I admit it, I am not a morning person although as I get older, I am finding my body thinks I am. Note I said body – engagement of my brain is a whole different thing. There are definite benefits to waking up early this time of year though. Usually, the morning light is sharp without the haze that comes up in the afternoon. Light has an interesting play here in the mountains. My house is on the slope of a  mountain looking west to the Front Range mountains of Colorado. In the morning, the sun takes a bit to get over the mountain I live on, but shines brightly on the mountains across the small valley. The trees are fully leafed out and the sunlight coming through the aspen leaves and pine needles makes beautiful patterns on the ground.

YARN LOVERS!!!! Hot August Knits starts TODAY! It will run from Saturday, July 26 to Saturday August 9. All shops will be open from 10 – 5 each day which means we will be open on Sundays and Mondays (quilters are welcome too, of course).  This year Wooly Colorado dyed the 100% merino DK mini skeins and ESS Knits  made custom stitch markers for each shop. Each shop will have their color mini and stitch marker for sale during crawl along with suggested patterns. Our patterns are for a coaster set and a very cute child’s hat with whirligigs on top. Check out the HAK website for more information.

We have a new beanie kitted – Forests of the North. This is another great pattern by Nancy Bates!

…and we also are kitting Bates’ Washington state pattern because it is a really cool forest on top of your head.

For crocheters, Jean Gillies, our marvelous teacher of knitting and crocheting has stitched up a mountain and river landscape quilt from Nature's Landscape Crochet Blankets. This is not for the faint of heart - it will take a LOT of time, but it is sturdy and beautiful! It also takes a lot of yarn - this will be kitted on demand. Call the shop and talk with Catherine.

At long last, we have Scott Flanagan’s Fall Foliage pattern kitted again. This is a great “forest” that takes advantage of the creative designs in Flanagan’s Changes in Seasons III collection. Grab one before they are gone.

Stay cool and have fun!
