Movement
It is finally summer whether you consider Memorial Day, the solstice, end of school, or temperatures the start of the lazy days. I was walking my dogs this morning and it was breezy, moving the leaves and branches, causing the grasses (and weeds) and flowers to sway. That got me thinking about movement in quilts (almost anything gets me thinking about quilts). I love my fabrics to look like they have movement. I rarely use solid colors – I prefer “solid-ish” or fabrics with tone on tone for my backgrounds. Yes, a quilt can definitely be a center of calm and rest so solids definitely have their place. Solids also work well for quilts that create images and movement with lots of smaller pieces. I don’t do lots of little pieces, but that is just me. So, I look for fabrics that speak softly to me of movement. What do you like to see when you look at your quilts?
The Just Quilt It Mountain Gold panels are finally back in stock. Many of you pre-ordered them and they were mailed out last week. We also have in stock the black, gray, and green blenders (faint tree pattern) that blend with the panel and are just great blenders or backing for any quilt. Remember, the Just Quilt It Mountain Gold is a giant panel – you cut off the backing and binding. Quilt the panel with the backing (and yes, the backing includes overage), bind it, and you have a beautiful mountain quilt. It can’t get any easier!
Fun collections keep coming in for all you mountain flora and fauna lovers like Timberland Trails by Wilmington Prints. The fabric features moose, elk, and bears in silhouette, blenders, and words. The colors include dusty blue, dusty green, grays, browns and ivory. The collection includes a craft panel, blenders, and a stripe. Remember, stripe fabrics make easy borders, table runners, and placemats!
We have Scott Flanagan’s Changes in Seasons III collection in. Scott’s batik patterns and designs are always a favorite. We kitted two of his patterns but have already sold out – hope to have more back in stock soon!
A collection with a different color twist is Into the Wild by Benartex. We have kitted these fun colors of rich green and plum and beige as a table runner and 8 placemats. Each kit includes backing.
We have a new Fat Quarter bundle available, called Wildlife, Trails & Peaks. This includes a FQ of our custom fabric that has all the Rocky Mountain National Park trailheads, one that has many of the high peaks in Rocky, our large mountain mammals, and 2 blenders. Check this out and see how many trailheads you have visited and how many mountains you have climbed! For you lovers of Rocky Mountain National Park, we have the trailhead and peaks fabrics each in two different colors.)
