Both Sides Now

Remember the song by Judy Collins “Both Sides Now” ? I think a lot about clouds here in the mountains – we of course get the thunderheads in high summer, and the rolling blanket when the clouds are full of snow, but my favorite are the UFO clouds (also known as lenticular clouds). If you have flown in a plane, you’ve also seen the topside of clouds…both sides. We often have people stopping by the shop to purchase backing fabric(s). There are two sides to a quilt after all! Keep your creativity flowing and think about your backside – you can put a single fabric on the back, piece together a back out of scraps (great stash buster), use leftover blocks, put a panel on the back, or more. Also consider using a different fabric like flannel, fleece, or Minky. Rayon can be used in warmer climates for a lighter weight, cooler quilt. Unless you are making a wall hanging, your back will be seen, so make it special!

The NoCo Shop Hop is fast approaching. Be sure to save the date to explore the 13 participating shops. Today we sorted and distributed almost 500 bolts of fabric to the shops so we can all start cutting kits for our blocks. Each store has a unique block needed to complete the quilt. Below is a picture of the Windham fabrics that will be used. You will not be able to see the actual quilt until May but clues will be posted until then! (These were deliberately photographed in their wrapping just to give a hint.)

If you think you know of a great pattern that will showcase our fabrics, feel free to send the name of the pattern and the designer to us at info@peaktopeakstitching.com. If we kit the pattern you send, we will send you a gift certificate! We are always looking for new patterns.

One of the most fun parts of working in a quilt shop is selecting fabrics for new quilts. We have been busy designing fabric combinations using our custom fabrics and hope to be able to show you what we have put together soon.  When looking at a pattern, it can be hard to separate the pattern itself from the fabric used in the pattern. See the two examples below.
