Textures
Animals – from pets to deer, even birds – all get fuzzy looking during the winter. I love how fluffed out they all look, especially when it is cold out. The rough winter coats have a lot more texture to them than the sleek summer look! It is extremely rare for me to quilt or knit with solids. Why? I love the sense of depth, texture, and motion that having variation in my fabrics or yarns gives. Variation is most obvious with an actual pattern in a fabric, but it can more often be subtle color-on-color or tonal variations in both fabrics and yarns. Of course, there are reasons to use solids (think those sleek summer animals!) but give me texture year ‘round!
Quick reminder – our February 8th, Birthday Celebration is coming up fast. Customers will receive a free gift with purchase, all fabrics on the bolt and yarn skeins will be 25% off, and there will be a refreshment table. Join us to celebrate 2 years! If you place an online order, we will send your gift along with your order.
On February 1st, become a “Hopper” with the FabShop Virtual Shop Hop. Go to fabshophop.com and sign up for the virtual shop hop, then come to our website and find the bunny (aka hopper)! The Shop Hop will take you on a trip around the country to see shops online.
At long last, Northcott’s Highland View Collection came in. For you deer lovers, this is a special treat. Check out the fabrics on our website or look for a video of our box opening on FaceBook. We will be kitting 2 different patterns that utilize these fabrics – Highland Steps and Goose Chase.
Check out this material for placemats. It is a bit sturdier than just fabric pieces but is washable. The on-point Log Cabin Placemat Pattern suggested for the pre-cut material is beautiful (and a stash buster).
Keeping with the log cabin theme, it is hard to resist this pattern called Meadow Hummingbird. I do not think it looks much like a hummingbird, but it sure is cute nevertheless!
We have also had more new Charley Harper fabrics come in, along with several other fabrics. A couple of staff members were at the cutting table looking at another who was cutting a Charley Harper fabric for a customer. The two of us exclaimed we had never seen that fabric before, the other said we have had it for years. Go figure! Stop in and see what is new and new to you!
Carlsbad Caverns is our newest beanie by Nancy Bates Designs to be kitted. Per my shop sample knitter, this one does take intermediate level knitting skills. The beautiful Hickory Oats yarn by Little Squirrel showcases the intricate pattern.
