Mountains are cool!
It is high summer in the Rockies, complete with small groups of elk cows and their cute calves hanging out nearby. It is not uncommon for them to be right out front of the US Bank building where our shop is located! Then there is the smoke haze, seemingly a perennial summer feature these days. It is so sad to have wildfires. For now (and hopefully the rest of the year), the fires are not near us and we hope not near you either! Estes is having a lovely nice summer – we certainly are not seeing the 95+ temperatures so many of you are. Check out our website if you want to think cool mountain thoughts!
Hot August Knits begins tomorrow, Saturday!! Be sure to check out our mini-skein along with the skeins from all of the stores. The skeins are ONLY available in the stores and not online. One per customer! Our store project uses Crystal Bergstrom’s Mini Skein Sampler (free) pattern that utilizes the mini-skeins from all 7 stores (fall will come sooner or later and you will want a beautiful scarf!).
It has been a bit since I wrote the last newsletter; meanwhile, at the shop we had some fun new items that came in. The first are woven labels by Sarah Hearts. These will add a very special touch to any project you make. (Gotta love the “Made under Moonlight ones – how many of you stitch into the late hours of the night?)
For you flyfisherpeople (is that a word?) out there, we have a new line in from RJR fabrics called Daily Catch. The collection comes with nice blenders to complement the fish, gear, and flies.
We have kitted a new, easy to make quilt that features our Longs-Meeker panel. The pattern is called Longs-Meeker Massif and is built around the panel itself. Just add some Half and Quarter Square Triangles and, voila, you have a quilt ready to go. The panel features the Longs-Meeker massif including the iconic “beaver”, as well as views of Longs that include the East Face, the Keyhole, Keyboard of the Winds, and Chasm Lake.
Charley Harper and the Rocky Mountains….I have talked about the upcoming retreat to make the fun and easy quilt. Now we are also offering it as the Charley Harper Rocky Mountain Palette kit in the store. Check it out!
Thank you to all of you who have dropped off and/or mailed in blocks, tops, and fabrics for use during our Summer Orphan Block Quilt Making Day for Quilts Beyond Borders. I really appreciate the fabrics you have shared with us. We had two people help make 5 quilts last week! Hooray! We will get a fall session on the schedule soon.
All of you English Paper Piecing lovers out there stay tuned because we will be kitting some quick and easy grab-and-go kits to take with you on your travels. Our staff member Wendy is a whiz and she is having fun with designs
Stay cool!
