Peak to Peak Stitching: Summertime, and the livin’ is easy….

The wildflowers continue to proliferate here in the Estes Valley. I can’t remember a summer more lush or full of color. Some higher up trails are still icy!

The big news in the shop is that our shipment of custom batiks is in! We have had just the 1-2 bolts of our SKUs that were airlifted in ahead of the main bulk of bolts sent by boat for so long that we forgot what it was to have stock in. Stop by and enjoy custom batiks reflective of the Estes Vally and the Rocky Mountains.

Northcott’s Northern Peaks collection has also arrived and Northcott’s lead printed fabric designer, Deborah Edwards, has done it again with a beautiful collection focused on BEARS in the mountains. The accompanying fabrics have beautiful designs in shades of greens, browns, tans, and blues. There are trees, tree rings, rocks, and of course, bears. We have kitted 3 patterns in these fabrics but any pattern in the store can utilize the fabrics as well!

Also in off of backorder are Riley Blake’s National Parks in the USA maps. Sew a star or a button next to each park you have visited (a permanent marker will also work ! :>) and keep track of where you have been.

Our Christmas in July celebration continues as well with kits, projects, and a special pricing section. Yes, I know it’s early to think about the holidays, but it’s not too early to think about getting ready with new decorations or gifts.

Hot August Knits 2023 will start on Saturday, July 29th and run through Saturday, August 12th. Each of the seven stores participating has a unique mini-skein available. Each store only has 50 mini-skeins of its design, so If you want to collect all 7, along with some really neat ideas along the way, be sure to go to each shop as soon as possible beginning in July 29th! The HAK website has more detailed information: https://hotaugustknits.com/

Let’s talk classes. Since it’s “easy time” (you may be on vacation, you may have the summer off from a job, the heat may just make you slow down, or any number of other reasons!), now is the time to try a new project or class. Practice your hobby with no fear of making a mistake or two – life is about learning and expanding horizons.

Landscape Fiber Art – Spring/Summer in the Rockies Jul 29: This is a beginner class. You will learn the basic skills needed to complete a mountain scene landscape fiber art wall hanging. ONLY 1 SPACE LEFT!

Quilted Legends on August 5th: Introduction to the cutting, piecing, and pressing techniques used in the book Quilted Legends of the West which features 10 pieced wildlife patterns with Native American Symbolism. You can choose any one of the patterns for the class. Borders and basic binding will also be taught.

Circling Charley Harper on August 19th: Join this class to learn how to master insetting circles. You’ll be amazed how easy it is to do, using a technique developed by Cheryl Phillips that requires minimal pinning. You will use this technique to make a table runner or blocks for a quilt.

Learn to Knit Socks on DPNs on Aug 12th: Learn how to knit socks on double pointed needles.

Knitting Hats Made Easy on Aug 16th: This hat class is an intro to knitting in the round and will end with a great hat to wear. If you know basic knitting skills, you can do this hat!

Learn to Knit Flat Brioche on Aug 17th: Learn to knit a brioche scarf while learning the brioche stitch. Class is suitable for an advanced beginner.

Intro to Quilting on Aug 29th: Have you ever been curious about quilting? This is the class for you. We will touch on the basics of the craft: a little terminology, a little how to, and a lot of hands on! In this class you will learn the very basics of what it means to cut perfectly good fabric apart and stitch it back together in blocks to make a table runner

Finally, we need your ideas. We want to provide a social group opportunity with our Sit & Stitch open stitch sessions on Thursdays, 1-4. Most weeks, we have no one attending. We sure would appreciate feedback on what would encourage you to come sit and stitch in a casual atmosphere for an hour or two. If you are willing, please send an email to info@peaktopeakstitching.com about what days of the week and times would work best for you. Is this something you would prefer to do in winter rather than summer? We will hold one more Sit and Stitch next Thursday, July 27 but will not hold any more after until we figure out a new structure. Let us know what would work for YOU!!!

Take care everyone. Enjoy high summer in the Rockies!
