Batiks, a National Park blanket, and Classes!

Summer is good and truly here at last. LOTS of wildflowers, warmer temperatures (but not as warm as TX and OK!), and afternoon thunderstorms.

It seemed like they would never arrive….but from Indonesia via truck, ship, and more trucks, from designs created before we even had a storefront, our custom fabrics are here at last!!!!!! As I write this on Thursday evening, the fabrics are being brought into our storage area at long last. We will have kits and projects ready for you soon. These batiks are all Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain inspired!

 (1 of 6 pallet loads!)

Check out this cute fish knitted by Libby, one of our very accomplished knitting staff members. She knitted the fish from the book Wild and Wooly Knitted Animals by Sara Elizabeth Kellner. The book contains a LOT of fun wild animals found in this area for you to create.

Classes are now posted through the end of August. September should be up within the next week. We have a variety of classes coming up. For our knitters, we have classes in brioche, knit socks, headbands, basic hats, shawls, and learning to knit. We have some exciting quilt and fiber quilt classes starting in July with a class to piece the top for the Estes Peaks pattern featuring the local mountains – this quilt is doable in one day. A beginner landscape art quilt is offered on July 29. This class will teach the basics of landscape art and is highly suggested for anyone who might be interested in taking Jackie Vujcich’s intermediate class creating a columbine on November 2. While these classes are in-person, we plan to add zoom classes and blocks-of-the-month programs this fall.

On Thursday, June 29th from 3-5PM, we are excited to host Ashley D’Antonio of Smart Knits, the group that created a knit square for every national park as part of the National Park Service’s Centennial Celebration in 2016. Since then, new squares have been added for each new park founded since then. Peak to Peak Stitching has compiled all of these patterns into one one spiral bound book.  Pick one up so you can stitch a new square every time you visit a new park. Come meet Ashley and hear the story behind Smart Knits’ work.

Christmas is coming……well, maybe not December 25th, but the shop will be celebrating Christmas throughout the month of July with all kinds of beautiful holiday fabrics and kits and suggestions for projects so you will be all set with gifts when December DOES roll around. Let us help you stitch a mountain memory!

Take care!
