Instructor: Leslie Yale
Instructor Bio: Leslie Yale grew up in Southern California where she was very excited to be able to sign up for woodshop for the fall of 8th grade. Her parents moved her to Fort Collins, Colorado that summer and the school signed her up for Home Ec, as girls were not allowed to take woodshop. She was horrified. But the school district had listened to the wisdom of their Home Ec teacher had purchased Bernina sewing machines for the students. Leslie was hooked. Garment sewing intrigued her. After only a year in Fort Collins, she moved to McLean, Virginia, where a British neighbor gave her a patchwork book as a thank you for babysitting her two boys. Leslie enjoyed patchwork, using the sewing machine her Grandmother gave her, but found that cutting all the individual pieces to be a pain. After to college and graduate school, she and her husband settled in Dallas, Texas, where she pursued a career as a Geologist. A friend dragged her to a class about the newest greatest sewing tool—rotary cutters. With the ease of cutting and precision they provided, she dove back into quilting and making clothing for her two sons. She is particularly fond of batiks and intensely colored fabrics and she enjoys introducing and teaching friends about the art of quilting.
