Instructor: Nancy Taylor
Instructor Bio: Nancy began sewing around kindergarten when she received a hand-cranked, chain stitch sewing machine. She does not remember making anything with that machine, because she later got an electric Singer chain stitch machine, which she still has. Many Barbie clothes were produced using that machine. This also taught her to use paper patterns. After fourth grade, Nancy made herself a dress using her mother's White sewing machine, with her mother's guidance, of course. Fast forward to 7th and 8th grade home economics class, where Nancy was bored sewing up her assignments, while the rest of the class struggled. During high school, Nancy did some babysitting. The best part of babysitting was putting the kids to bed so she could use the mother's sewing machine. When Nancy went to college, her parents purchased a used Singer straight stitch machine in a wooden cabinet for her. Between uses, Nancy would turn the whole cabinet upside down, unscrew the legs and slide it all under her bed. She used this machine for quite a while, to make dress shirts and suits for her husband, as well as curtains, drapes, dust ruffles, slip covers and clothes for herself and children. Her first zig-zag machine was obtained when her daughter was born. Fast forward to 20 years ago, when Nancy decided to take up quilting to ?"use up her scraps". The scraps were never "used up" and when she moved to Colorado and had to downsize, 6 kitchen size trash bags were sent to Nancy's aunt who makes baby quilts. These days, Nancy mainly makes quilts for Trail Ridge Quilters. If you visit her home, the railings of the loft are covered in quilts as are all the beds in her log cabin.
