This class is for you if you want to learn the basics of how to operate your sewing machine and piece a quilt. The class will begin with a discussion and demonstrations covering quilting tools and supplies, fabric selection, to pre-wash fabrics or not, threads, rotary cutting, and routine cleaning of your machine. During the following weeks, the class will work on 1/4" seams and the basic building blocks and techniques for piecing blocks including four-patch, nine-patch, half square triangles, quarter square triangles, flying geese, curves, and square-in-a-square.

Requirements: | Required Materials (all materials except your sewing machine, bobbins, and 1/4" foot can be purchased during the first class at Peak to Peak Stitching with a 10% class discount): o Sewing machine with bobbins, a 1/4" presser foot, and its instruction manual o Start Quilting with Alex Anderson, 3rd Edition Fabrics: o Main (Focal) fabric for blocks: 1 Fat Quarter o Background (Light color) fabric for blocks & sashing: 2 Fat Quarters or 1/2 yard o Accent (Medium: color) for blocks: 1 Fat Quarter o Border fabric: 1/2 yard Basic sewing supplies o Bobbins that fit your machine o 90/14 or 75/11 machine needles o Seam ripper o 50 wt cotton thread in a neutral color o Pins o Fabric glue pen o Chalk marking pen or a pencil with sharpener o Rotary cutter, 45 mm or 60 mm o Scissors or snips o Rulers - 1" x 6" AND 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" or similar sizes o 4-1/2" square o Irons, ironing boards, cutting mats, and extension cords will be provided |
